Recreational-based applied behavior analysis (ABA) is an innovative approach that combines the principles of behavior analysis with recreational activities to promote positive behavior change in individuals. This approach focuses on using fun and engaging activities to teach new skills and behaviors while also reducing challenging behaviors.
Recreational-based ABA has been found to be effective in a variety of settings, including schools, homes, and community programs. It is particularly useful for individuals with developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder, as it provides a naturalistic and enjoyable way to learn new skills and behaviors.
The approach typically involves a team of trained professionals, including behavior analysts, educators, and recreational therapists, who work together to develop individualized treatment plans for each person. The treatment plan includes specific goals and objectives, such as improving social skills, increasing communication, and reducing problem behaviors.
Recreational activities are carefully selected to support the individual's interests and preferences, while also providing opportunities for learning and skill-building. For example, a child who loves playing with Legos may be given a structured activity that involves building a tower with specific guidelines and rules, which can help improve their attention to task and following instructions.
The use of positive reinforcement is a key component of recreational-based ABA. Positive reinforcement involves providing rewards or praise for desired behaviors, which helps to increase the likelihood that the behavior will occur again in the future. For example, a child who successfully completes a task may be rewarded with a high-five, a sticker, or a preferred activity.
Overall, recreational-based ABA is a creative and effective approach to promoting positive behavior change in individuals. By using enjoyable activities and positive reinforcement, individuals can learn new skills and behaviors in a natural and enjoyable way.

Applied Behavioral Analysis or ABA Therapy is a behavior-based approach that helps individuals learn new skills and improve behaviors in a positive and supportive environment
Recreational-based ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is different from traditional ABA in that it focuses on teaching skills through play, recreational tasks, and leisure activities, giving the environment a more naturalistic feel. Rather than strictly academic or overt therapeutic exercises such as "point to the cat". This approach can be more engaging and enjoyable for most individuals, especially those who may struggle with traditional learning methods.
We are currently accepting clients from 18 months through 18 years old, with considerations for those who are 19+ on Private pay
We are a Michigan based company, but we provide Recreational-Based ABA therapy in Oakland and Washtenaw Counties
As of right now we only do in home (or in school only when needed) Recreational-based ABA therapy. We strive to create natural opportunities for our client's to work on targeted behaviors. By working within their natural environment not only is it easier to see the behaviors, it's easier to generalize the behavior to happen without us being there. If you are worried about socialization goals please let your BCBA know and there are ample ways for us to create opportunities.
It is Recreational- Based ABA Therapy that takes place in your home. Your child's dedicated Supervising Clinician/BCBA will first conduct an assessment to determine the amount of therapy needed and recommend a schedule of care based your child's individual needs. Then, a Registered Behavioral Technician/ RBT will be assigned to your case. During scheduled therapy visits, your child's RBT will come to your home to work or "play" with your child in a one-on-one setting to provide ABA therapy. Think of it as playing with a purpose.
No, absolutely not. Everything is individualized so to imply that every person needs at least 15 hours per week is not truly taking an individualized approach to therapy.
